Ricardo Trujillo Rojel, 30, was arrested in Weber County after his children’s mother, 23-year-old Mayra Catalan-Dima, was found dead with a severe puncture wound to the neck and burn marks in a home that had been set on fire. Trujillo faces charges of aggravated murder, aggravated arson, and obstruction of justice. The Amber Alert was issued when officers arrived at the scene and determined that Catalan-Dima’s death was suspicious and the children, ages 2 and 3, were missing. Trujillo and the children were found about 80 miles south and he was arrested after resisting and assaulting an officer.
Trujillo appeared in court virtually on Friday, where he was granted a no-contact order with his children. His next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Trujillo had a previous arrest for suspicion of domestic violence while under the influence of methamphetamine earlier in the year. He was accused of damaging property and was charged with possession or use of a controlled substance and property damage or destruction.
Catalan-Dima’s parents reported that she had plans to move out of the trailer on the day of the incident, but Trujillo asked her to return home over the phone. Trujillo remains in custody at the Weber County Jail without bail.
