Rafael Devers goes 0 for 19 as Red Sox lose to Orioles 8-5

In an exciting home opener, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-5, thanks to Tyler O’Neill’s four hits. The Orioles secured the win with big offensive innings in the first and eighth, backed by a solid bullpen performance. Despite Felix Bautista allowing two runs in the ninth, the Orioles held off Boston, with Alex Bregman hitting a game-ending popup.

Orioles starter Cade Povich struck out eight but allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Boston’s Sean Newcomb threw three shutout innings after a rough start, giving up four runs in the first inning. Baltimore capitalized on early opportunities with four consecutive singles in the first, including RBI hits by O’Neill and Ryan Mountcastle.

While Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins added to the lead with a two-run double, Red Sox star Rafael Devers continued to struggle, going 0 for 19 with 15 strikeouts in the season. The teams are set to face off again on Wednesday, with Garrett Crochet pitching for Boston and Zach Eflin for Baltimore.
