After a hospital stay, Pope Francis surprises everyone with his appearance at the Vatican

Pope Francis, aged 88, made his first public appearance since being hospitalized for double pneumonia. He greeted a cheering crowd from a wheelchair at St. Peter’s Square before returning to the Vatican. The pontiff, with an oxygen hose, thanked supporters for their prayers and well wishes. Doctors had considered ending treatment as his condition worsened during his five-week hospital stay. After being released, Francis was advised to rest for at least two months and avoid crowds.

He had been hospitalized for bronchitis that developed into double pneumonia, along with renal issues and an infection. The respiratory illnesses were particularly dangerous because of past health issues that led to part of his lung being removed. The pope expressed gratitude for the care he received during his hospitalization and the love and support from his followers.

Born in Argentina, Francis became the first pope from the Americas in 2013. His return to the Vatican after a life-threatening illness brought joy and hope to the faithful. Despite his weakened state, the resilient pontiff smiled and spoke to the crowd, showing gratitude for their continued support. The pope’s experience of patience and care from healthcare workers during his hospitalization reflected the love and devotion he holds for all those he serves.
