The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to part ways with cornerback Jack Jones after failing to trade him, choosing instead to release him, as reported by multiple sources. Jones, who will now become a free agent, had a productive season in 2024, appearing in all 17 games with 16 starts and achieving career-high stats with 69 combined tackles, 16 passes defended, and three interceptions.
The 27-year-old joined the Raiders in 2023 after being claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots, where he had appeared in five games. During his time with the Patriots, Jones had shown promise with two interceptions returned for touchdowns in just seven games. Originally drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Jones had faced off-field issues during his time in New England. In June 2023, he was arrested at Logan Airport on weapon charges after two firearms were found in his carry-on luggage. Jones agreed to a plea deal in September of that year, which required him to serve 48 hours of community service and one year of probation in exchange for the dropping of eight of the nine weapons charges against him.
Jones’ future in the NFL remains uncertain as he now becomes a free agent following his release from the Raiders. Stay tuned for updates on where he may land next in his football career.
