Brewers acquire Quinn Priester from Red Sox in exchange for outfield prospect

In a move that signals a shift in the Boston Red Sox’s pitching rotation, the team has traded Quinn Priester to the Milwaukee Brewers. Priester, who struggled to make an impact in Boston, has been dealt in exchange for minor league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, a draft selection, and a player to be named later or cash.

Priester, acquired last July in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates, had a lackluster spring with a 4.82 ERA over four appearances. With the emergence of other pitchers like Richard Fitts and Sean Newcomb, Priester found himself on the outside looking in.

As part of the trade, the Red Sox will receive Rodriguez, a promising 19-year-old outfielder who played in A-plus ball last season. Rodriguez showed potential with a .250/.343/.383 slash line in single-A in 2024.

The trade signifies the Red Sox’s commitment to building for the future and making strategic moves to strengthen their roster. With the addition of Rodriguez and the draft pick acquired from the Brewers, Boston aims to bolster their farm system and continue their pursuit of success at Fenway Park.

Overall, the trade highlights the Red Sox’s willingness to make bold decisions and shake things up in order to position themselves for long-term success in the competitive landscape of Major League Baseball.
