Discount retail chain Big Lots, which recently filed for bankruptcy and closed many of its stores, is making a comeback with the opening of nine new locations in six states on April 10. The company will open three stores in Tennessee and one each in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Virginia. These openings come after Gordons Brothers Retail Partners purchased Big Lots in December 2024. Variety Wholesalers also received 219 Big Lots stores and two distribution centers as part of the deal.
Variety Wholesalers has opened nine stores in what they are calling the first wave of openings, with plans to open the rest of the acquired Big Lots locations in future waves. On May 1, an additional 55 Big Lots stores are expected to open across the country in the second wave of openings. The company promises customers remodeled stores, a wide selection of closeout deals, and new merchandise categories such as apparel for the family and electronics.
This news comes after Big Lots closed all of its Massachusetts locations under the new ownership. Despite facing bankruptcy, the discount retail chain is optimistic about its future with these new store openings. Customers can look forward to a refreshed shopping experience with a variety of products at discounted prices. For those interested in the exact locations of the new stores, they can be found in the company’s press release.
