Billionaire Jared Isaacman is set to appear before Congress in a Senate nomination hearing on Wednesday as a candidate for the next NASA administrator. Isaacman, known for leading private space missions such as Inspiration4 and Polaris Dawn, has been nominated by President Trump to lead NASA in pushing forward American space exploration efforts. Isaacman, who dropped out of school at 16 to start a successful internet payment processing company, has a passion for space and aviation, with over 7,000 flight hours of experience. He has already flown to space twice, once as the commander of Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian extended spaceflight, and once on last September’s Polaris Dawn mission, which included a pioneering spacewalk by Isaacman and a SpaceX employee. If confirmed, Isaacman would take over from Bill Nelson as the head of NASA and work to advance America’s position as a leader in space exploration. The Senate confirmation hearing will be live-streamed and will be led by Senator Ted Cruz. Isaacman’s leadership in commercial spaceflight aligns with NASA’s goals to drive innovation and strengthen partnerships in space exploration.
