Hamilton hits home run to secure Red Sox victory over Rays, 1-0

In a thrilling game, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Wednesday night. David Hamilton’s third-inning home run was the only run of the game, propelling the Red Sox to victory. The Boston bullpen was stellar, striking out 13 Rays hitters and allowing just one hit in the final 4 1/3 innings.

Despite missing Alex Bregman, who was on paternity leave, the Red Sox pitchers showcased their dominance. Relievers Greg Weissert, Garrett Whitlock, and Justin Slaten combined to retire 13 of the last 14 Tampa Bay hitters with no walks and nine strikeouts. Slaten closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning for his second save.

Starter Sean Newcomb delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run over 4 2/3 innings before the bullpen took over. Rafael Devers also reached a milestone, becoming the 31st player to appear in 1,000 games in a Red Sox uniform.

The Red Sox’s victory marked a bounce-back after a tough 16-1 loss on Monday. The team will enjoy a day off on Thursday before starting a seven-game homestand on Friday. Their next challenge will come against the White Sox and Mariners. Meanwhile, the Rays will face the Yankees in a four-game series, with Taj Bradley set to start for Tampa Bay.
