Brazilian woman Ilma Leandro De Oliveira has been arrested by federal law enforcement officers for illegally entering the U.S. and allegedly raping a child on Cape Cod. The charges against her include rape of a child, reckless endangerment, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and more. She was arrested in Falmouth on March 20 and had previously been deported to Brazil in 2007 after entering the U.S. illegally near Laredo, Texas. It is unclear when she reentered the U.S., but she was arraigned on the child sexual abuse charges on March 18. ICE served her with a notice of intent to reinstate a prior removal order and transferred custody to the U.S. Marshals Service on April 8. Leandro is expected to be prosecuted for illegal reentry after being deported. ICE Boston Field Office Director Patricia Hyde stated that the charges against Leandro are crimes that will not be tolerated in the Massachusetts community.
