New Celtics ownership to include former partners

The Celtics are undergoing a major ownership change as Bill Chisholm’s group prepares to take over from the Grousbeck family later in 2025. Current owner Wyc Grousbeck expressed excitement about the new ownership group, which includes former partners and promises to bring in more capital than they even have room for. Grousbeck will continue to be involved with the team as governor and CEO until the end of the 2027-28 season.

While not all current investors will stay on with Chisholm’s group, Granite CEO Rob Hale is set to remain involved. Chisholm’s group, which includes Sixth Street and Related Companies president Bruce Hale, has faced questions about financing the purchase, with reports that Chisholm had committed less money than required by NBA rules.

Some current investors, like co-owner Steve Pagliuca, will not be part of the new ownership group but remain committed to the team. Pagliuca expressed willingness to potentially purchase the team if Chisholm’s deal falls through. The NBA has yet to vote on approving the sale, but Grousbeck is optimistic about the future and the mix of old and new energy that will shape the Celtics under new ownership. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting transition in the Celtics’ ownership.
