Boston Herald: Red Sox bullpen squanders Tanner Houck’s stellar performance in 8-4 defeat

The Boston Red Sox suffered an 8-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, despite a strong performance from starting pitcher Tanner Houck. Manager Alex Cora commended Houck for his six-inning outing, but criticized the bullpen for failing to hold on to the lead. Houck bounced back from a poor previous start, limiting the White Sox to two earned runs. However, the Red Sox offense struggled, only mustering six hits and squandering multiple scoring opportunities.

Zack Kelly and Justin Wilson’s struggles in the seventh inning allowed the White Sox to take the lead for good. Liam Hendriks made his Red Sox debut after Tommy John surgery, giving up three hits in the eighth inning. The Red Sox’s overall performance was disappointing after a four-game winning streak prior to the game.

The two teams will conclude their series on Monday morning with the annual Marathon Monday game. Despite the loss, the Red Sox will look to bounce back and regain their winning form moving forward.
