Jillian Ondrick’s dominant pitching leads Weymouth softball to victory over Pembroke (photos)

The Weymouth High School softball team kicked off April break with a dominating 10-0 victory over Pembroke on Monday morning. This was the team’s first game on their renovated home field this season, with junior pitcher Jillian Ondrick leading the way with an impressive performance on the mound.

Ondrick, who recently joined the program, showcased her pitching prowess with 13 strikeouts and only allowing one hit in five innings. Coach Vanessa Haen called the pitches for Ondrick, utilizing a system where the pitcher and catcher read instructions from wristbands for pitch type and location.

The Wildcats’ offense also came alive in the first inning, scoring five runs as seven of the first eight batters reached base. Despite a quiet second and third inning, Weymouth rallied back in the fourth with key hits from Riley Flatley, Bella Pires, and Abby Reed, padding their lead.

With the win, Weymouth overcame the challenge of missing key players due to school trips, showcasing their depth and adaptability. The team looks to carry this momentum into their upcoming road games, starting with a matchup against Marshfield on Thursday.

The victory not only marked a successful start to the week but also highlighted Weymouth’s strength as a team and their ability to come together and secure wins in challenging circumstances.
