Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey has secured a $3.1 million settlement with airport-services provider Swissport for failing to pay overtime wages and late wages to approximately 2,100 employees at Logan International Airport. The investigation was prompted by complaints from affected workers, many of whom are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ. According to Healey, the violation of labor laws by employers like Swissport harms workers by depriving them of fair compensation. Under the terms of the settlement, Swissport will pay over $3.1 million in citations, including restitution for unpaid wages and penalties. Roxana Rivera of 32BJ SEIU emphasized the importance of enforcing wage and hour laws for low-wage workers, and expressed hope for a collaborative relationship with Swissport in the future to ensure that workers are properly compensated and protected. The AG’s office is committed to enforcing laws to protect workers’ rights and hold employers accountable for violations. Requests for comment from Swissport were not immediately returned.
