Boris Johnson declares that Ukraine receives no benefits from Trump’s peace proposals

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has spoken out against Donald Trump’s Ukraine peace proposals, stating that the terms would leave Ukrainians with nothing. Johnson, a strong supporter of Ukraine, criticized Trump’s apparent deal, which would allow Russia to keep seized Ukrainian territory, control Ukraine’s destiny, lift sanctions, and rebuild its armed forces for future attacks. Meanwhile, Ukraine would only gain an economic partnership with America and the right to share natural resources.

Trump has accused Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of jeopardizing a peace deal and hinted at recognizing Russia’s annexation of Crimea. In response, Russia launched devastating air attacks on Ukrainian cities, causing widespread civilian casualties. Both Johnson and opposition leader Keir Starmer condemned the attacks and called for a lasting ceasefire to protect the Ukrainian people.

Despite past criticisms of Trump’s rhetoric, Johnson has defended the US president’s efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, acknowledging a viable plan for resolving the conflict. However, he emphasizes the need for a long-term, credible, and properly funded security guarantee for Ukraine to prevent further Russian aggression. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts to end the violence and protect the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people.
