4 Key Insights as the Boston Celtics Fall to the Magic in Surprising Game 3 Loss

Celtics Fall to Magic, 95-93, Despite Tatum’s Return

Orlando, FL – The Boston Celtics faced a tough defeat against the Orlando Magic, losing 95-93 in Game 3 of their playoff series at Kia Center. Despite the return of All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, who scored 36 points, the loss marked the Magic’s first victory in the best-of-seven series, which Boston currently leads 2-1.

Tatum dominated the first half, scoring 21 of his points and helping the Celtics build a 12-point lead. However, Orlando’s defense tightened in the third quarter, restricting Boston to a season-low of just 11 points. This defensive surge enabled the Magic to reclaim the lead and extend it to 12 points in the fourth, thanks largely to the performances of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Boston rallied late in the game with a 17-5 run, tying the score at 91 with 2:31 left. However, Wagner’s clutch baskets sealed the victory for Orlando. Jaylen Brown added 19 points for Boston, but the Celtics struggled with turnovers, accumulating 19 throughout the game, including six critical mistakes in the third quarter.

The Celtics’ inability to convert on offense was highlighted by their dismal third quarter, where they shot only 17% from the field. Kristaps Porzingis also continued to struggle, missing six of his first nine shots and contributing to Boston’s offensive woes. With Jrue Holiday sidelined due to a hamstring injury, his status for Game 4 will be closely monitored.

As the series shifts back to Orlando for Game 4 on Sunday night, the Celtics must regroup to regain their footing against a resilient Magic team.
