Boston Red Sox Roster Update: RHP (11 IP, 1 R for WooSox) Added as 27th Man for Doubleheader

Red Sox Call Up Cooper Criswell for Doubleheader Against Guardians

CLEVELAND — The Boston Red Sox have added right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell as the 27th man to their active roster for Saturday’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. This decision follows Friday’s rainout, which has rescheduled the match-up to commence at 1:10 p.m. The second game will begin at 6:10 p.m.

Criswell, 28, has shown impressive form with Triple-A Worcester, recently delivering a standout performance against Syracuse. In that game, he pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and no walks while striking out eight batters. This outing brought his total to just one run allowed over 11 innings with the WooSox this season. Earlier in the season, Criswell had brief appearances on Boston’s 26-man roster, where he faced challenges, giving up eight runs (five earned) in just 4⅓ innings across three relief appearances.

For the doubleheader, Boston will have Tanner Houck (0-2, 7.66 ERA) starting in Game 1, facing off against Cleveland’s Ben Lively (1-2, 3.86 ERA). The evening matchup will feature Red Sox’s Walker Buehler (3-1, 4.23 ERA) against Guardians prospect Doug Nikhazy, who will be making his Major League Baseball debut.

As the team aims to turn their season around, fans will be keen to see how Criswell’s call-up impacts the pitching lineup and contributes to the Red Sox’s performance in this critical doubleheader.
