Police Search for Suspect in Reading Gas Station Car Theft and Hit-and-Run Incident
Reading police are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a car theft and hit-and-run at a local gas station on Saturday evening. Authorities received a 911 call around 6:30 p.m. from the Shell gas station at 110 Main Street, reporting that a 49-year-old man was struck by his own vehicle during the theft. According to the police, the victim was filling his black 2022 Range Rover Sport when the suspect, driving a stolen blue Chevrolet Malibu, abandoned the Malibu and jumped into the Range Rover.
As the suspect fled, he hit the victim, dragging him for approximately 20 feet. The victim was taken to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, although the extent of his injuries remains unclear. Police have indicated that the suspect may have left Massachusetts and could be in Connecticut or New York.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, with medium-length brown hair and some facial hair, wearing a maroon T-shirt. Investigators urge anyone with information to contact the Reading Police Department at 781-944-1212. The Range Rover bears Massachusetts plates 4JGX91.
