Press Release: Arrest Made in Violent Carjacking Incident at Massachusetts Gas Station
Reading, MA – Local police announced the arrest of a suspect involved in a dramatic carjacking incident at a gas station on Saturday evening. The 32-year-old man from Livermore Falls, Maine, was apprehended in New Jersey late that night following a brief pursuit involving both vehicle and foot chases.
According to Reading police, the alarming event took place shortly after 6:30 p.m. at the Shell gas station located at 110 Main St. Police received a 911 call reporting the theft of a black 2022 Range Rover Sport belonging to a 49-year-old Reading man. The victim was refueling his vehicle when the suspect, who had arrived in a blue Chevrolet Malibu—which was reported stolen in Maine—abandoned his car, took control of the Range Rover, and fled the scene.
In a horrifying turn of events, the suspect hit the victim while driving off, partially running him over. The victim reportedly managed to grab onto the Range Rover’s mirror, but was dragged for approximately 20 feet before losing his grip. He has since been transported to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for treatment, though the extent of his injuries remains unknown.
Reading police plan to secure multiple charges against the suspect in Woburn District Court. Additional charges may also arise in both Maine and New Jersey as investigations continue. The incident underscores the seriousness of car theft and violent crime in the area, prompting heightened awareness and vigilance among citizens.
