Community Grief and Support Services Flourish in Western Massachusetts
WILBRAHAM – Rick’s Place, founded in memory of Rick Thorpe who perished in the 9/11 attacks, is dedicated to providing free peer grief support for youth aged 5-18 and their caregivers. Established in 2007, it aims to create a supportive environment where families can process their loss together. HOLYOKE – NAMI Western Massachusetts (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) is hosting its 25th Annual Walkathon Celebration, "A Journey of Hope and Recovery," on May 18th at Stanley Park’s Beveridge Pavilion. Starting at 11 a.m. (registration at 10 a.m.), the event is open to all ages and aims to support those affected by mental health conditions. Volunteers are encouraged to join. PALMER – Baystate Health offers various online cancer support groups, led by oncology social worker Camille St. Onge. These include dedicated groups for general support, caregiving, expressive writing, and breast cancer, held on different Wednesdays each month. For details, reach St. Onge at 413-239-7239.
Additional resources include virtual NAMI Connection Recovery Support groups, Family Support Groups in Greenfield, and a monthly MJD Support Group in Ludlow for families impacted by substance use disorders.
