Patriots Conclude Draft with Strategic Trades and Picks
April 28, 2025 | By Hayden Bird
The New England Patriots made headlines at the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft by formalizing the trade of quarterback Joe Milton to the Dallas Cowboys. In exchange for the 25-year-old backup and a 2025 seventh-round pick, the Patriots acquired a fifth-round pick (No. 171 overall) from Dallas.
Although New England did not utilize this pick, they demonstrated shrewd decision-making by trading it to the Detroit Lions for a sixth (No. 182) and a seventh-round pick (No. 228). With the 182nd pick, the Patriots selected kicker Andres Borregales, a standout from the University of Miami, noted for his accuracy and reliability.
New England continued to optimize their position by sending the 228th pick to the Kansas City Chiefs, receiving two additional seventh-round picks (No. 251 and No. 257) in return. The Patriots selected long snapper Julian Ashby with the 251st pick and cornerback Kobee Minor, dubbed "Mr. Irrelevant," at 257, rounding out a productive draft.
Overall, the final terms of the Milton trade illustrate the Patriots’ continued focus on enhancing their roster for the upcoming season.
