Lowell Boys Volleyball Triumphs in Nail-Biter Against Methuen
LOWELL – In a thrilling match that showcased resilience and determination, the Lowell boys volleyball team edged Methuen 3-2 (27-25, 20-25, 25-27, 30-28, 15-13) in a tightly contested Merrimack Valley Conference showdown on Thursday night. The No. 12 Red Raiders, now 9-1, displayed remarkable composure, overcoming two match points in the critical fourth set to secure a vital victory against the reigning champions, the No. 14 Rangers (7-3).
Junior setter Vitou Seng set a career-high with 61 assists, fueling the offense led by sophomore Aundre Rivera, who recorded 25 kills, and senior Ian Mao with 17 kills. Methuen attempted to seize the momentum, with setter Shawn LaDuke contributing 54 assists and Andrew Cox delivering 19 kills. However, Lowell’s depth and youthful tenacity shone through, enabling them to rally back in the fourth set and edge out a heart-stopping win.
“This is a testament to our setter and younger leaders keeping things together under pressure,” said head coach Paul McCarthy. The victory marked Lowell’s eighth consecutive win, solidifying their unbeaten conference status and signifying a bright future for the young team.
