Austin Hooper Reflects on Coaching Transition Ahead of 2025 Season with Patriots
April 29, 2025 | Gillette Stadium – Tight end Austin Hooper, now in his second season with the New England Patriots, shared insights on adapting to coach Mike Vrabel’s demanding coaching style. Previously playing for Vrabel in Tennessee during the 2022 season, Hooper acknowledged the initial challenges of transitioning from offensive-minded coaches to a defensive-focused approach. "It was different the first time… a very strong personality," he explained, noting the intensity Vrabel brings to practices.
Despite the adjustment period, Hooper recognized the value of Vrabel’s expectations. "Like any good boss, he clearly defines what his employees need to do," he stated, emphasizing how learning to operate within his framework has enriched his experience. Last season, Hooper was a standout amidst the Patriots’ struggles, recording 45 receptions for 476 yards and three touchdowns.
Choosing to re-sign with the Patriots rather than explore free agency, Hooper expressed excitement about building chemistry with new quarterback Drake Maye and reuniting with fellow tight end Hunter Henry. "A tremendous group of teammates" made his decision simple, as he looks forward to a strong 2025 season.
