Magic Coach Calls Out Refs Over Controversial Call That ‘Changed the Series’ in Favor of Celtics

Celtics Triumph Over Magic Following Controversial Challenge in NBA Playoff Game

BOSTON — Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosely faced a pivotal moment during Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, which shifted dramatically after a controversial foul call against his star player, Paolo Banchero. With the score tied and 9:46 remaining in the third quarter, Mosely challenged a foul on Banchero that sent Jaylen Brown to the free-throw line. The officials upheld the call, resulting in Banchero’s removal from the game with five fouls.

The ensuing free throw gave Boston the lead, sparking a surge that led to a commanding 21-point advantage by the end of the quarter. "It definitely swung the series. It definitely swung the game," Mosely remarked, expressing frustration over the officiating decision that cost his team their best player at a critical juncture.

Referee Tony Brothers later clarified the ruling, describing Banchero’s actions as impeding Brown’s shot and asserting that the contact made was incidental. The Celtics capitalized on the opportunity, finishing the game with a decisive 120-89 victory. They now advance to face the winner of the series between the Knicks and Portland.
