Ex-Cambridge City Councilor Faces Kidnapping Charges

Former Cambridge City Councilor Nadeem Mazen Arrested on Multiple Charges

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Nadeem Mazen, a former city councilor, was arrested April 16 at a Holiday Inn Express, facing serious charges including kidnapping, witness intimidation, and property destruction. Police were called to the hotel after reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they found Mazen attempting to climb a fence, bleeding and exhibiting erratic behavior.

According to police reports, Mazen described his relationship with a woman at the hotel as non-sexual, alleging she was secretly recording him. He claimed a glass she threw at him caused a cut on his hand. In contrast, the woman stated Mazen was inebriated and had locked her in the bathroom after taking her phone. When she threatened to call the police, he reportedly smashed a hotel phone.

Mazen tried to resist arrest, leading to him being sedated before transport to a hospital. After pleading not guilty to all charges during his arraignment, he was released under the condition of no contact with the woman and abstaining from drugs and alcohol. A pretrial hearing is set for June 25. Mazen’s attorney asserts he categorically denies the charges, emphasizing his commitment to public service.
