Introducing Brian Allen: The ‘Worcester Kid’ Ready to Lead the City’s Schools

Worcester Welcomes New Superintendent Brian Allen

Worcester, MA – The Worcester School Committee has appointed Brian Allen as the new superintendent, succeeding Rachel Monárrez, who steps down on July 1. Allen, a “Worcester kid” who attended local schools, emphasized the support he received from dedicated teachers that shaped his journey. "Kids like me needed an extra push to succeed," he stated, highlighting the importance of educational support.

Currently the deputy superintendent, Allen has a long-standing connection to Worcester Public Schools (WPS), having joined the district in 1999. He has served in various financial roles, including chief financial officer, before taking on his current position, which involves budget oversight and school support.

In an interview with MassLive, he expressed his honor at being chosen and his commitment to continuing the district’s five-year plan initiated by Monárrez, which focuses on equitable resources, community engagement, and modernization of facilities. Allen also aims to advocate for increased funding to address the challenges faced by Worcester’s schools, asserting, “Resources are really the biggest challenge.” With a background in education as an adjunct instructor, he brings expertise to his new role and aims to foster continued growth and support for students in the district.
