St. Mary’s Baseball Triumphs Over Bishop Stang in Close Clash
DARTMOUTH – St. Mary’s of Lynn delivered a strong performance against Bishop Stang, securing a 3-1 victory in a Catholic Central League matchup on Wednesday.
Key contributions from the roster coupled with stellar pitching from senior lefty Josh Doney proved pivotal for St. Mary’s (14-1). Doney effectively managed the game, allowing only six hits, striking out six, and holding Bishop Stang (9-3) to a single run, which came in the sixth inning during a unique delayed steal by Matt Burt. “Holding them to one run is a big accomplishment,” remarked St. Mary’s coach Derek Dana, commending Doney’s self-belief and resilience on the mound.
Offensively, St. Mary’s struggled initially but broke through in the fourth inning. Junior Micah Hashikawa delivered a crucial two-out RBI single, scoring sophomore Rowan Merryman, and later added another run in the sixth with an infield hit. “Micah is not an everyday guy, but when he’s in there, he really makes things happen,” Dana praised.
This victory underscores St. Mary’s strong season as they continue to compete at the top of their league.
