Lea Michele Reflects on Grieving Cory Monteith While Filming Glee
In a recent episode of the "Therapuss" podcast, actress Lea Michele opened up about the profound grief she experienced following the death of her boyfriend and "Glee" costar, Cory Monteith, while still filming the popular musical series. Michele, now 38, recalled being haunted by a tour bus that passed her West Hollywood home, blaring her character Rachel Berry’s iconic rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” "It was the tour of people who have died… every day I would hear these details, and eerie music would be playing," she shared.
Monteith tragically passed away from a heroin and alcohol overdose in July 2013 at the age of 31. During the podcast, Michele reflected on how his death deeply impacted her and her fellow cast members, stating, "It was so sad… No one handed me a guidebook… It was way too much to try to process at such a young age." At just 26, Michele felt immense pressure to continue working, emphasizing that the cast’s commitment was crucial to ensuring their crew’s livelihood.
Despite the challenges, Michele expressed gratitude for the support she received from her colleagues during that difficult period. "I felt a lot of support from everybody in the building… I was looking at those people like they were holding me up," she noted.
Michele has since honored Monteith annually with heartfelt tributes, whether through notes or nostalgic photos. After moving forward, she found love again with husband Zandy Reich, and the couple now shares two children. With an enduring commitment to Monteith’s legacy, Michele continues to cherish the memories of their time together.
