Spring Sports Power Rankings Released by MIAA
In a much-anticipated announcement, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) unveiled its latest power rankings for the spring sports season covering baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, and rugby. The rankings, which will determine postseason eligibility, highlight the top-performing teams in each category, with the top 32 girls’ tennis teams qualifying for the playoffs, alongside schools achieving at least a .500 record.
In Division I girls’ tennis, Boston Latin leads the rankings with a standout record of 8-3 and an average margin of victory at 1.727. Following closely are Newton South at 10-0 and Wellesley at 13-1, showcasing a competitive landscape in this division. Notably, Acton-Boxborough and Lincoln-Sudbury also made strong showings in the top five.
Division II sees Longmeadow standing out with a record of 13-0, continuing their dominance in the competition. Westborough and Wayland follow closely, indicating a tightly contested race for postseason spots.
Meanwhile, in Division III, Martha’s Vineyard Reg. claims the top position at 10-0, while Dover-Sherborn and Saint John Paul II round out the top three, demonstrating strong performances as the season progresses.
Divisional rankings in summer sports like rugby also received attention, with teams showcasing diverse talents and competitive spirit throughout the state.
As the postseason approaches, the atmosphere is growing increasingly charged across Massachusetts high schools, with players and coaches closely eyeing the rankings and striving for victory on the courts and fields.
