Freddy Fermin’s Walk-off Single Seals Royals’ 2-1 Victory Over Red Sox
KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) — In a thrilling extra-inning showdown on Friday night, the Kansas City Royals edged the Boston Red Sox 2-1, thanks to Freddy Fermin’s walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning. This win marks the Royals’ seventh consecutive victory and their 16th in the last 18 games.
Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen of the Royals threw a stellar seven innings, allowing just three hits without any walks, supported by a standout defensive play from Salvador Perez. Conversely, Boston’s Hunter Dobbins also delivered a commendable performance, holding the Royals scoreless over six innings, despite facing challenges that included a one-out triple in the fifth.
Both teams scored in the 11th after ten innings of shutout baseball. In a notable moment, Rafael Devers contributed an RBI but faced scrutiny after expressing reluctance to play first base, prompting Red Sox management to intervene.
The Red Sox will look to bounce back in the second game of the series, set to feature left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet against Kansas City’s Cole Ragans.
