A tragic collision near Yellowstone National Park resulted in the deaths of seven individuals after a pickup truck and a tour van collided, according to police reports. Separately, a serious crash on a Southern California freeway resulted in one death and 32 injuries, two of which were critical. The Southern California incident occurred around 5 a.m. on May 11 on State Route 60 near Hacienda Heights, about 22 miles east of Los Angeles. It involved a tour bus and a Nissan SUV, with the latter fully engulfed in flames upon arrival of emergency services. The driver of the SUV, trapped inside, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Of the 32 injured, 26 sustained minor injuries, while two were critically hurt. All were taken to local hospitals for treatment. An initial investigation indicated that the SUV had become disabled for unknown reasons, blocking a lane. Subsequently, the tour bus collided with it, causing further damage as the bus veered into a guardrail.
Footage from the California Highway Patrol captured the bus leaning against the shoulder with significant damage, including a shattered windshield. Portions of the freeway were closed for several hours for investigation but reopened around 10:30 a.m. Authorities revealed that alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash, which continues to be under scrutiny. The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to clarify the causes and prevent future tragedies.
