Abby Chin Champions Women in Sports Broadcasting
Boston, MA – May 12, 2025 – Abby Chin, the veteran sideline reporter for NBC Sports Boston’s Celtics, is shining a spotlight on women in sports broadcasting. Following a revealing moment in 2021 when she found herself as the only woman among dozens of reporters at a press conference, Chin felt compelled to take action.
Determined to foster an inclusive environment, she joined WISE, a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering women in sports, and has recently taught a college broadcast journalism course. Chin also co-hosts the new podcast "Women’s League" with fellow reporter Naoko Funayama, aimed at sharing the stories and challenges faced by women in the industry.
Chin acknowledges the unique pressures women encounter, such as the need for meticulous grooming and managing familial responsibilities—she’s a mother of two. “This job is different for women; there are so many things men don’t have to consider,” she stated.
Through her podcast and mentoring efforts, Chin hopes to encourage aspiring journalists while highlighting the accomplishments of women who often go unseen. "You don’t know it’s possible until you can talk to someone who’s done it before," she emphasized. Chin’s mission is not just to pave the path for women in sports but to inspire future generations.
