Attorney Discloses Location of Worcester Mother Arrested by ICE

Press Release: Mother Detained by ICE Sparks Chaos in Worcester

Worcester, MA – A significant incident unfolded on Eureka Street as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Rosane Ferreira-De Oliveira, a Brazilian national, on Thursday. Ferreira-De Oliveira is now being held at the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls, Rhode Island, as confirmed by her daughter’s attorney, Andrew Georges Lattarulo.

Witnesses reported that chaos ensued when ICE agents, accompanied by a large police presence, attempted to arrest Ferreira-De Oliveira. Over 30 individuals confronted the agents, questioning their authority and the legitimacy of their warrants. Eyewitness Jill Phillips noted that Ferreira-De Oliveira was initially detained in a car around 11 a.m.

The situation escalated when Ferreira-De Oliveira’s daughter, Augusta Clara, attempted to block the vehicle carrying her mother. Holding a newborn, she was urged by police to step aside for safety. In an emotional outburst, she kicked the car as it pulled away, resulting in her arrest on charges including reckless endangerment of a child and resisting arrest. Clara has since been released and is now staying with family friends along with her newborn and her sister.

The incident raised broader concerns about ICE operations in the community, with Lattarulo suggesting that the agency’s intent may have been to apprehend the entire family. In a related arrest, Ashley R. Spring, a school committee candidate, was charged with multiple offenses during the chaos.

Judge Janet McGuiggan has entered a not-guilty plea on Spring’s behalf, allowing her release on personal recognizance. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge, grappling with the implications of federal immigration enforcement actions in local neighborhoods.
