Press Release: Pine Hill Cemetery Hosts "Grave Conversations" Historical Walking Tours

WESTFIELD, MA – May 16, 2023 – On May 18, Pine Hill Cemetery will present “Grave Conversations: Pine Hill Cemetery Veterans Speak,” a captivating half-mile walking tour featuring the stories of eight distinguished military veterans. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear reenactors portray these heroes, whose service spans from the Civil War to World War II.

The tours, which last approximately 20 minutes, will start at 1 p.m. with the last tour kicking off at 2:40 p.m. Presale tickets are available for $10 at the Westfield Athenaeum or online (fees apply), while limited tickets will be sold for $15 on-site at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) monument.

Highlights include a WWII U.S. Navy jacket belonging to Maryann Ochs Douglas, a Link Trainer Instructor, and Edwin R. Lay’s historic bible. The event is organized by the Friends of Pine Hill Cemetery, dedicated to preserving the site and its history. Proceeds from the tours will aid in restoring the historic Henry Lyman Parks Memorial Chapel, which will be open for viewing on the day of the event.
