Thunderstorm Artis Dedicates Original Song to His Wife on Mother’s Day Episode of "American Idol"
In a special Mother’s Day tribute episode of "American Idol," contestant Thunderstorm Artis set himself apart by performing an original song titled "Out of The Blue." Unlike many of his peers who leaned on classics from icons like Bob Dylan and Sam Cooke, the Hawaiian singer wanted to express his love for his wife, Faith, and their two children. Artis shared that he wrote the heartfelt piece inspired by Faith, explaining, "When I met Faith, I wasn’t looking for love; she came into my life ‘out of the blue.’”
The uplifting track featured touching lyrics such as “when it’s dark, you’re the sunshine breaking through.” Judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan praised Artis for his artistry, with Richie declaring he had “what we call ‘a career.’” Underwood commended him for the audacity of showcasing an original song at this stage.
As fans voted to decide the fate of contestants, Mattie Pruitt and Gabby Samone were eliminated. Artis will return for another Disney-themed performance on Monday night, leading up to the final episode of Season 23, airing May 18.
