Boston Bruins Target Rick Tocchet as Head Coaching Contender
The Boston Bruins are reportedly eyeing Rick Tocchet as a prime candidate to fill their head coaching vacancy, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger. Following a tenure with the Vancouver Canucks that concluded after the 2024-25 season, in which he led the team to a Pacific Division title and won the Jack Adams Award, Tocchet is generating buzz across the NHL. Despite the Canucks’ disappointing season this year, which saw them miss the playoffs, Tocchet’s overall coaching record stands at 286-265-87.
Dreger suggests that alongside the Bruins, Tocchet is also on the radar of the Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken. He has strong ties to both franchises; Tocchet played a significant part of his career with the Flyers and also spent time with the Bruins, where he was teammates with current Bruins leadership.
Analysts expect Tocchet will secure a lucrative deal, potentially exceeding $6 million annually on a five-year contract. As the Bruins aim to re-establish their competitive edge, the addition of Tocchet could be a pivotal move in their strategy for the upcoming season.
