Certifications for Lincoln Police Chief; Gloucester Officer Placed on State Suspension

Local Law Enforcement Officials Face Serious Charges

In a shocking turn of events, Lincoln Police Chief Sean Kennedy and Gloucester Police Officer Alexander Aiello have been involved in separate criminal cases that have led to their certifications being suspended by the state’s police oversight commission.

Kennedy was arrested at his Westwood home on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence, following an incident where he allegedly threw his wife against a wall during an argument, resulting in injuries that required stitches. Town Administrator Timothy Higgins acknowledged the severity of the allegations but emphasized the presumption of innocence pending legal proceedings. Kennedy has pleaded not guilty and was released on personal recognizance.

Meanwhile, Aiello faces federal charges for receipt of child pornography after investigators reportedly found disturbing material on his electronic devices. Gloucester’s Police Chief Edward Conley confirmed the department’s cooperation with federal authorities, reiterating the importance of maintaining public trust and integrity.

Both officers are required to surrender any police equipment, including uniforms and firearms, to their respective departments. The incidents raise serious concerns regarding accountability within law enforcement agencies, as communities expect officers to uphold the law.
