Massachusetts Gang Members Sentenced for Distributing Counterfeit Adderall
Two members of the Asian Boyz gang, Erickson Dao and Bill Phim, were sentenced for their roles in distributing counterfeit Adderall pills, which contained a dangerous mix of methamphetamine and caffeine. Dao, 32, received over seven years in prison, while 37-year-old Phim was sentenced to a decade behind bars. Following their prison terms, both will face supervised release periods—four years for Dao and five for Phim.
In early 2022, Dao delivered counterfeit pills to Phim on multiple occasions, which were then sold to an undercover federal agent for over $36,000. The counterfeit pills closely resembled authentic Adderall, complicating identification for potential buyers. Chemical analysis confirmed their hazardous composition. Investigators uncovered more counterfeit pills and large quantities of cocaine at Dao’s residence.
Phim admitted to coordinating pill supply with gang associates, including Brian Gingras, who is also facing sentencing. As part of their convictions, Dao must forfeit $50,000 in assets, while Phim must forfeit his vehicle. This case highlights the alarming rise in counterfeit medications, posing a significant threat to public health, especially among teens.
