Tragic Crash Claims Lives of Wareham Residents on I-495
Middleborough, MA – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 claimed the lives of two Wareham residents, identified as Cecil Johnson, 70, and Rosemarie Dias, 68. The incident occurred around 12:28 p.m. on Thursday, prompting immediate response from the Middleborough Fire Department.
According to authorities, the crash happened on the northbound side of I-495, near the Cherry Street overpass. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the vehicle off the road and engulfed in flames, which subsequently ignited nearby trees. Despite swift action from emergency responders, both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported, and the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. Traffic on the northbound lanes was disrupted, with a complete closure for approximately 30 minutes, and only the left lane was reopened while emergency crews continued to work in the area. The local community is mourning the loss of Johnson and Dias, as officials urge drivers to remain vigilant on the roads.
