Red Sox Seek to End Losing Streak with Catching Controversy
BOSTON — As the Red Sox aim to snap a four-game losing streak, manager Alex Cora continues to rotate catchers Carlos Narváez and Connor Wong. Despite Cora’s insistence on a timeshare, Narváez is set to start for the sixth time in seven games on Saturday night against the Atlanta Braves at Fenway Park.
Narváez is in fine form, boasting a .323 batting average and a .934 OPS over his last 19 games. He leads all MLB catchers with seven defensive runs saved (DRS), making him a crucial player for Boston’s lineup. In contrast, Wong is struggling with a .146 season average and has yet to find his groove since returning from the injured list.
With the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET and live coverage on FOX, the Red Sox lineup features Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, and Alex Bregman, among others. Currently, Boston holds a record of 22-24, including 5-9 for May, as they look to improve their home performance and break free from an inconsistent month.
The Braves, sitting at 23-22, will send Grant Holmes to the mound against Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito.
