Boston CEO Arrested in Brothel Scandal Amidst Clean-Tech Success
Boston, MA – Anurag Bajpayee, the Indian-origin CEO and co-founder of Gradiant, a leading clean-tech firm specializing in wastewater treatment, has been arrested as part of a high-profile brothel scandal investigation near Harvard University. Prosecutors allege that Bajpayee was a member of an elite clientele involved in illicit activities, which included doctors, lawyers, public officials, and government contractors, purportedly engaging in sex trafficking offenses by paying up to $600 hourly for encounters with primarily Asian women.
The arrest was made during a sting operation earlier this year, where Bajpayee is accused of attending the luxurious brothel multiple times.
Bajpayee, who was born in India and holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from MIT, has guided Gradiant from its inception as an MIT spinout in 2013 to its current status as a billion-dollar enterprise. His contributions to global water sustainability earned him recognition from Scientific American, which named his innovations among the “Top 10 World-Changing Ideas.”
Despite calls for Bajpayee’s resignation from some employees, Gradiant has publicly supported him, emphasizing confidence in the justice system. The company issued a statement affirming its commitment to cleanliness and innovation, stating, “We believe in the justice system and are confident that this will resolve favorably in due course.”
As the investigation unfolds, the case has raised questions about the integrity of business leaders in the tech industry. Gradiant’s future, along with Bajpayee’s personal and professional reputation, hangs in the balance as the judicial process begins.
