Braves Overpower Red Sox, Clinch Series Win
BOSTON (AP) — May 18, 2025 — The Atlanta Braves demonstrated their offensive prowess, defeating the Boston Red Sox 10-4 on Sunday, securing a three-game series victory. Marcell Ozuna continued his stellar performance, hitting a two-run homer for the second consecutive day, while former Red Sox player Alex Verdugo contributed three hits. Austin Riley also notched three hits as every Braves starter, excluding Verdugo, recorded at least one RBI.
Rafael Devers highlighted the Red Sox’s efforts with his sixth career grand slam but it wasn’t enough to counteract Boston’s struggles, now having lost 11 of their last 17 games. Braves pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach (3-3) silenced the Sox offense for six innings, allowing just four runs and six hits.
In a critical fifth inning, Boston’s Brayan Bello (2-1) faltered, failing to contain the Braves, who capitalized on his struggles by scoring three runs to take control of the game. As the Braves improve to 24-23, they prepare for a new challenge against the Washington Nationals, while the Red Sox look to rebound against the New York Mets at Fenway Park on Monday.
