Call for Public Help in Investigation of Abandoned Poodle-Mix Found on Interstate 495
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) is seeking public assistance regarding a young poodle-mix named Willie, found matted and emaciated on Interstate 495 in Lawrence. Rescued on May 19, Willie was initially taken to the MSPCA’s Nivens Farm in Methuen but quickly required advanced medical care due to his serious condition.
Director of MSPCA Law Enforcement, Chris Schindler, revealed that Willie is currently receiving round-the-clock treatment at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. His prognosis remains uncertain, as veterinarians suspect he may have pneumonia and is suffering from severe dehydration and potential neurological issues. "Only time will tell if he’ll respond to treatment," said Schindler, emphasizing the urgency of Willie’s recovery while also investigating how he ended up in such a dire situation.
MSPCA investigators face challenges as they work “from scratch” to piece together Willie’s past and discover how he was abandoned. The organization is appealing to the public for any information regarding Willie’s history or owner. Those with tips can contact the MSPCA Law Enforcement Department at 617-522-6008 or 800-628-5808; tip submissions can also be made anonymously online through the MSPCA website.
Willie is under the care of the Pet Care Assistance fund, which supports his medical needs. The MSPCA encourages donations to aid in Willie’s recovery through their dedicated webpage. This heart-wrenching case underscores the critical need for community vigilance and support in ensuring the welfare of animals in distress.
