Tragedy Strikes: Two Israeli Embassy Employees Killed in D.C. Shooting
Washington, D.C. – May 22, 2025 – In a tragic incident Wednesday night, two Israeli Embassy employees, Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and Sarah Milgrim, 26, were shot and killed by a gunman outside the Capital Jewish Museum after attending a Young Diplomats Reception. The event, hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC), aimed to foster relationships among young Jewish professionals and global diplomats.
A memorial vigil is set for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Kehillath Israel in Brookline to honor their memories. Ted Deutch, CEO of the AJC, expressed profound sorrow, stating, “Moments before they were murdered, they were smiling, laughing, and enjoying an event with colleagues and friends.” The AJC described Milgrim as “warm and compassionate,” highlighting her commitment to peace and sustainability.
Following the shooting, the AJC called for action against the rising tide of antisemitic hate crimes. The Israeli Embassy released a statement mourning their loss, describing both individuals as friends and colleagues, emphasizing the senseless nature of the attack.
As the community mourns, discussions surrounding safety and anti-hate measures are urgently underway.
