MBTA Orange Line Services Disrupted by Spring Nor’easter
Boston – The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) announced a temporary disruption of Orange Line services on Thursday evening, due to severe flooding conditions affecting the track near Ruggles station. The agency opted to replace train service with shuttle buses between Ruggles and Jackson Square stations after high water levels were detected, posing safety risks for passengers and operations.
This service disruption began shortly before 7 p.m. and escalated as conditions worsened; by 8:30 p.m., commuters were advised to use the Green Line for travel downtown, while shuttle services were extended to cover routes from Back Bay to Jackson Square and then further to Forest Hills. An additional shuttle was made available between Copley and Back Bay stations to accommodate those affected.
An MBTA spokesperson noted that debris had accumulated near a drainage gate, necessitating worker intervention to clear the blockage. Earlier in the day, the MBTA also suspended services on the Winthrop Ferry due to strong winds and rough seas caused by the ongoing nor’easter, emphasizing the widespread impact of the severe weather conditions.
