BOSTON (AP) — In an exhilarating matchup at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on May 24, 2025. The victory came courtesy of a clutch single by Rafael Devers, who drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The Red Sox showcased their newly debuted "Fenway Greens" uniforms during the game, illuminating the field and exciting fans. Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Abraham Toro each contributed with solo home runs, with Devers continuing his impressive May performance, maintaining a .419 batting average with a league-leading 47 RBIs.
Baltimore initially surged ahead with a two-run double by Ramón Urías in the first inning and extended their lead to 5-2 by the fifth. However, the Red Sox fought back, with Toro’s homer narrowing the gap to 5-3. After a chaotic sixth inning highlighted by an error from Orioles shortstop Gunner Henderson, Boston leveled the score.
A pivotal moment came in the 10th inning when automatic runner Ceddanne Rafaela advanced to second. Devers connected with a grounder off Baltimore’s Gregory Soto, allowing Rafaela to score and secure the win for Boston.
The defeat marked the Orioles’ tenth loss in eleven games, further complicating their season as they aim to avoid being swept in a doubleheader for the third time this month.
Looking ahead, the Orioles are yet to announce their starting pitcher for the nightcap, while the Red Sox will send right-hander Lucas Giolito to the mound in hopes of continuing their victorious momentum.
