Nashik: India’s Rising Wine Destination
Nashik International Airport greets visitors with wine vineyard advertisements, signaling the region’s emergence as India’s wine capital, just 100 miles from Mumbai. The last two decades have seen a remarkable surge in Indian wine production, led by Sula Vineyards, which recently earned a gold medal at the Global Wine Masters for its cabernet sauvignon. Alongside other notable producers, Nashik is drawing attention from both locals and international travelers who seek authentic experiences beyond the country’s traditional whiskey culture.
Travel tour operators are now promoting Nashik as a new destination for wine tourism. With modern highways leading to beautiful vineyards, visitors can indulge in wine tastings and explore nearby attractions like the Trimbakeshwar Temple and the ancient Pandav Leni Caves.
Sula Vineyards, founded by Rajeev Samant in 1999, dominates the Indian wine market with over 70 labels and attracts roughly 350,000 visitors annually. Another hidden gem, Vallonné, offers exceptional wines and a homely ambiance, promising a diverse wine experience. As interest in Indian wines grows, industry leaders believe the future holds even greater promise for quality winemaking in the region, indicating a flourishing market ahead.
