Local Teen Charged After School Bus Collision in Lunenburg
Lunenburg, MA – An 18-year-old driver has been charged following a collision with a school bus on Lancaster Avenue Tuesday morning. The driver, who remains unidentified, admitted to using a cellphone while driving, causing them to veer into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, none of the approximately 20 students aboard the bus were injured, and the bus driver escaped unharmed.
Emergency responders from the Lunenburg Police Department and Fire Rescue promptly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. Police stated that speed was not a contributing factor in the crash, but the driver’s actions were deemed negligent. A secondary bus was organized to transport the students to school without incident.
In light of the accident, local authorities reiterated the dangers of texting and driving, urging residents to exercise caution on the roads. “There is never a text that’s worth your life or anyone else’s,” emphasized police authorities, referencing guidance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which warns that reading or sending a text can divert attention for crucial moments.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the perils of distracted driving in the community.
