MGM Springfield Maintains Workforce at 1,546 Employees Amidst Challenges
SPRINGFIELD — MGM Springfield reported a slight decrease in workforce numbers for early 2025, with total employment at 1,546, down from 1,562 in late 2024. The count reflects steady growth from 1,505 employees a year earlier. Of the current employees, 984 are full-time, 314 part-time, and 246 on-call. The casino has made strides in workforce diversity, with 804 minority employees constituting 52% of the total, surpassing the state’s goal of 50%. Veteran hires also exceed expectations at 68, compared to a target of 3%. However, MGM falls short on hiring women, with only 639, below the 50% aim.
While MGM initially promised 3,000 jobs to voters during the casino’s legalization, executives now acknowledge that a more feasible target is around 2,000, contingent on business demand. The casino is currently engaged in recruiting efforts through partnerships with local colleges and job fairs.
On another front, table and poker dealers unionized in March 2024, but negotiations have stalled, as MGM contests the election’s validity due to allegations of misconduct. The casino’s management is seeking a review of the election process.
