Yelich’s Walk-Off Grand Slam Gives Brewers Victory Over Red Sox
MILWAUKEE (AP) — In a thrilling finish, Christian Yelich hit a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-1 victory against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. With Joey Ortiz on second and Brice Turang at first, Yelich launched a 1-1 pitch from Liam Hendriks over the right-center wall, marking his first career walk-off homer.
Earlier in the game, Yelich tied it in the ninth with a double off Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman, eventually scoring on Sal Frelick’s hit. Rob Zastryzny secured the win for the Brewers by finishing the last two outs of the 10th inning.
Ceddanne Rafaela contributed for Boston, breaking a 0-for-13 slump with a ground-rule double, allowing him to score in the sixth. Despite holding a solid position, the Red Sox’s hopes diminished after Chapman’s first blown save of the season.
Boston utilized seven pitchers in the matchup, with Richard Fitts returning from injury to start the game. The Red Sox will look to rebound in the series finale against the Brewers, sending RHP Brayan Bello to the mound.
