Boston’s Potential Prospect: James Hagens Aims for Glory in NHL Draft
Boston College forward James Hagens, a rising star in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft, stands as a significant figure despite recent fluctuations in his draft ranking. Once considered a top talent, Hagens now holds the No. 3 spot according to Elite Prospects, trailing behind defenseman Matthew Schaefer and center Michael Misa. TSN’s Craig Button even placed him at No. 8, suggesting a potential drop from his earlier status.
Hagens, who hails from Long Island, embraced the challenges of college hockey, concluding his freshman year with 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists) in 37 games. While his performance may not match the prolific scoring seen in junior leagues, he recognizes the tougher competition in collegiate play.
Additionally, he set a record at the 2024 World U18 Championships, showcasing his potential. Despite concerns about his size and consistency, Hagens is optimistic about addressing any criticisms at the upcoming NHL scouting combine. He expresses a strong desire to compete and ultimately fulfill his dream of winning a Stanley Cup. With the Boston Bruins holding the No. 7 pick and a need for offensive talent, Hagens dreams of donning the spoked-B in the near future.
